The Rattler

The Rattler at Six Flags Fiesta Texas opened on March 14, 1992.  This 5,080 foot in length coaster was built by the Roller Coaster Corporation of America.  At the time of its opening, it was the world’s tallest wood coaster but later that year, its 166 foot drop was changed to a 124 foot drop.  This made the top speed go from 73 mph to 65 mph.  Six Flags Fiesta Texas is located on the former site of a quarry, giving the coaster unique topography, a cliff!!!  After the 124 foot drop you would rise over the cliff and make a left turn into the bottom of the valley.  Next, you swoop up onto the cliff and make a triple helix and then hit a break run.  After that, you drop into a tunnel, exit out and make three left turns finally entering the station.  Sadly over the years The Rattle did not age well.  The Rattler’s last day was on August 5, 2012.  But this legend will return and be bigger and better when it opens on May 25, 2013 as the Iron Rattler!!!
